Healthy and Fast Sprained Ankle Treatment

About 5 million million visits are made to the doctor’s office every year because of foot and ankle problems. Of those visits, over 1 million are due to ankle sprains. Most people think that the majority of people who sprain an ankle do so, because of a sport’s injury. In reality, that is not true. More people trip or take a mis-step and sprain their ankle than you might think. The reason for this is that most people have allowed their ankles to become extremely weak and stiff over the years. The slightest mistake can very easily cause a sprain.

Think about it. For most of human history, we walked with minimal footwear over uneven ground. We walked on grass, mud, tundra, sand, dirt, etc. That means our ankles constantly had to balance and keep us steady as we walked and ran over the land. Today, we wear extremely stiff, protective shoes over almost entirely even ground. We walk on wood, carpet and cement.

So, it should be no surprise that if we lose our balance or step on something that is not perfectly even, our ankle twists and we get a sprain. Okay, so that is the first thing to be understood. Our ankles are weak and are constantly at risk for sprains, because we no longer walk as we were meant to with minimal footwear over uneven, natural surfaces.

Assuming you now have a sprained ankle, whether it be from sports or just everyday life, it really doesn’t matter. You need to heal your ankle with a good ankle treatment program that works. Okay, so when it comes to a sprained ankle, there are a few main ankle treatment options. First, there is rest and ice. It is known as R.I.C.E. (rest, ice, compression, elevation). This is the least proactive method available to you. You basically just rest and ice your ankle until you can walk again. There are a huge number of problems with this treatment, because it does absolutely nothing to actually heal your ankle. Plus, it is now understood that ice is only effective for the first two days. After that, you are only effectively helping your ankle from rest.

But in addition, rest cannot break up scar tissue from the sprain. It cannot strengthen weak ligaments that have been damaged or torn. It cannot heal the neuromuscular control damage from the injury. The list goes on and on, but rest alone is totally inadequate as a good ankle treatment after a sprain. You simply have to more proactive in your healing process to get good results. Look, if you decide to just rest and ice your ankle, you can expect your healing time to be a few months. And even after that, you may still have pain for a long time. And your ankle will once again be at constant risk of re-injury.

Think about it. If you hurt your shoulder. Would you just let it atrophy for months on end from rest alone and then go back to your sports or activities? You know how much weaker and stiff it will be. It is pretty obvious that you would have to really rehab it correctly. But, for some reason, when it comes to the ankle, people think that rest alone is a good enough ankle treatment. Well, it’s not. Not by a long shot.

Instead of that, I strongly recommend an ankle treatment that will strengthen your ankle and properly heal the damage from the sprain. I believe the best option out there today is called H.E.M. Rehab Ankle Sprain. It is an at home ankle treatment that requires no equipment. The reason it works so well is because it is active rehab. It works to strengthen the ligaments in your ankle, so you get back to full strength. That means you will not need an ankle brace, tape or wraps that only serve to immobilize and further weaken your ankles. H.E.M. also does an excellent job of lowering your future risk of injury while also improving balance, lateral speed, etc. With stronger, more flexible ankles that move naturally, you will be much more confident in your movement, because your ankles won’t just twist at the smallest trip or mis-step.

But, the thing I like most about an active ankle treatment like H.E.M. is that it works so much faster than R.I.C,E. Most people report a healed ankle in about a week. And the pain is gone. It does not haunt the person for the next few months. And people do not report re-injuries. They seem to continue to strengthen their ankles to the point that their risk of injury is significantly reduced. The stiffness and bruising declines rapidly as well so people can get back to their lives quickly. People are consistently astounded when they heal faster than the average person, but it is just common sense. The ankle responds best to active rehab. That is by fat the best kind of ankle treatment.

If you have a sprained ankle, I hope you will take a second to learn more about H.E.M. or look into other acceptable ankle treatment options that are proven to work. If you would like to learn more about H.E.M, please click here.
