Do You Need Platelet Rich Plasma

by

You may have heard the recent claims about the successful use of platelet rich plasma (PRP) in treating drug resistant injuries. By definition, PRP is the biologic factor achieved when whole blood is spun in a centrifuge to separate its components. The plasma component of the blood is believed to be successful due to its healing factors which can be used to treat injuries.
This use of PRP in patients is becoming more widely accepted and the benefit of blood plasma has been investigated in many studies. PRP injections have been used to treat tendonitis and shown in some instances a higher degree of success than the use of cortisone. The surgical procedure use in PRP treatment can also be seen as less prone to rejection than treatment with cortisone. The success of PRP is mainly due to the fact that the biologic factor is derived from the patient
