Feet and Heel Injuries

by

When we think about our feet we start to see them as unique pieces of machinery that are able to carry the heavy loads of our bodies without ever giving them a single thought. Take a look at your heel now. It is made up of a cushion of fatty tissue and it protects the working structures of the foot, which includes the heel bone, the muscles as well as the ligaments. Many people suffer from heel pain, it is a very common sort of complaint. But how do you know if it is something more serious?

There are many complications that come with heel pain. Problems such as plantar fasciitis and heel spurs as well as Sever’s disease can be major problems to a person considering how very important the foot is in our day to day lives. By asking your orthopedic doctor to take a look at your sore heels you may be able to prevent and injury or be treated for an existing one.

There are certainly some groups of people that are more at risk than others for foot and heel problems. These people include ( but aren’t limited to):

  • Middle aged males and females
  • People who are physically active
  • Those who are overweight and obese
  • People who are on their feet for large portions of their day
  • Kids aged between 8 and 13
  • Pregnant women

Most of the time we can put heel pain down to a few common problems that have to do with what we are directly responsible for doing to them. These could be:

  • Ill fitting shoes
  • Obesity
  • Odd walking style such as rolling heels in
  • Hard surfaces that are stood on for lengths of time, running on them or jumping on hard surfaces

Should you recognize any of the symptoms listed then have a chat to your orthopedic doctor about what can be done for your heels and feet so that you can enjoy a better quality of life.
